Cleaning emergency? Don’t panic! Check out these six everyday items that can help with a carpet cleaning emergency.<\/p>\n
Artificial sweetener<\/strong><\/p>\n Always handy if you\u2019re out at a restaurant or a caf\u00e9, artificial sweetener can be used to blot a greasy stain. The fine powder absorbs the oil, and it may take a few packets, but it does work! At least enough until you get home and get your top in the wash.<\/p>\n Milk<\/strong><\/p>\n Milk is surprisingly good for ink stain removal! If you\u2019ve got a bad ink stain on a rug, simply let it soak overnight in milk, and then wash as normal the next day.<\/p>\n Shampoo<\/strong><\/p>\n Shampoo is designed to get dirt and grease out of hair, so it\u2019ll do the same trick on carpets! If you\u2019ve got a particularly rough stain, use shampoo on it before washing. It will break down the oils and act as a detergent.<\/p>\n Hair Spray<\/strong><\/p>\n If your toddler just went mad with a ballpoint pen on your new white shirt, spray the stain with hair spray and the pen marks should come right off.<\/p>\n Toothpaste<\/strong><\/p>\n It won\u2019t work for every type of stain, but for a few things like ink and lipstick, toothpaste might just do the trick. Put non-gel toothpaste on the stain and rub the fabric together enthusiastically, then rinse with water. Did some of the ink come out? Awesome! Repeat the process a few more times until you get rid of all the ink.<\/p>\n Shaving cream<\/strong><\/p>\n Take a can of non-gel shaving cream and spray it onto the stain, rub it in gently and let it dry before washing as normal. I had a friend who spilt a glass of red wine all over her white shag carpet. She covered it in shaving cream, let it sit over night, and in the moving, it simply wiped away, leaving absolutely no trace of the wine! Incredible!<\/p>\n So there you have it.
